A Turf War Over a Bar Leads to Hilarious Chaos
Bar Fight Cast: Melissa Fumero, Rachel Bloom and Tiffany Williams
A bar fight ensues between two ex-couples over a local watering hole. It turns out there’s only one way to settle things.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Melissa Fumero and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s Rachel Bloom join a roster of familiar sitcom faces at the Martinez, including jittery accountant Norm Peterson (George Wendt) and salt-of-the-earth mailman Cliff Clavin (John Ratzenberger). But who will prevail in this turf war?
Melissa Fumero
Melissa Fumero is best known for her role as Amy Santiago on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but she also appeared in One Life to Live, Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K, and Elena of Avalor on the TV side. She stars alongside Rachel Bloom in Bar Fight!, a comedy that features two ex-lovers going head to head over their local watering hole.
While it may have a solid cast, including Luka Jones as Allen and Rachel Bloom as Nina, the movie fails to deliver on its promise. Fumero is a likable ass and Bloom has that charm that could have helped the movie soar, but they are smothered by the premise.
Luka Jones
After a contentious breakup, exes Allen and Nina declare war for their beloved bar, and spend the night competing in out-of-this-world games to win their turf. Joined by their bemused circle of friends, they play blindfolded darts, human bowling, and more in an attempt to banish the other from the place that feels like a second home.
Luka Jones is an actor who has starred in the NBC sitcoms Best Friends Forever and Up All Night. He also trained at the Atlantic Theater Company, the Steppenwolf Theatre Company, and iO West in Los Angeles. He is a member of the UCB Harold team John Velvet and performs stand-up comedy around town.
Rachel Bloom
Rachel Bloom is an Emmy-winning actress, writer, singer and songwriter best known for co-creating and starring in the CW musical comedy-drama series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. She has a long history of mental illness, which is reflected in her character on the show. She has also self-released two albums of comedy music.
Fumero and Bloom bring a likable, energetic vibe to the movie. The supporting cast, including Dot-Marie Jones as a grumpy cook and David Carzell as the bouncer, add to the film’s charm. And then there’s Chelsea, the aforementioned ass who makes the entire bar feel like one big family.
Vik Sahay
Before landing a role on the NBC comedy “Chuck,” Sahay had been carving out a small niche of acting work north of the border. He played Kelvin Calvin on the Canadian high school-themed show Radio Active, and he portrayed Dala Vidya on the kids’ series Our Hero.
He also played Lester Patel on Chuck, and he appeared in the Canadian film Roxy Hunter as Rama. He has also performed in various theatre productions in Canada.
Bar Fight is a funny, enjoyable and laugh-out-loud comedy. The chemistry between the bar staff and regulars gives it an almost Cheers feel.
Daniel Dorr
Actor Daniel Dorr is no stranger to comedy. The actor has appeared in movies like Bill & Ted Face the Music, Fury and 20th Century Women. He also recently starred in Pure O, a drama film that was well received by the audience and critics.
Originally from Munich, Germany, he has had a unique journey into the acting industry. He has a chameleon-like ability to blend into a role and make it his own. He is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and has had many theatre credits including Macbeth with Antaeus Company, All My Sons and The Crucible.
Tiffany Williams
Tiffany Williams is an Executive Vice President of Unscripted Programming at BET. She oversees all of the network’s unscripted content, including development, production and current programming. She is also a producer and creator of several television shows.
This LA-set breakup comedy posits that the winner of a bar contest determines whether or not a couple can remain regulars at their favorite watering hole. Mahoney goes light on backstory, leaving the rivalry between flannel-shirt carpenter Allen and go-getting talent agent Nina to coast through not-especially-interesting challenges (trike racing; blindfolded darts) and smug snark — most notably from Nina’s wingwoman Chelsea, who wants her pal to root for some dicks.
Jaz
After a contentious breakup, exes Allen and Nina find themselves in the same bar again, fighting to see who gets to keep going there. Their conflict draws the other regulars and staff into a bar brawl with hilarious results. Elena is big and scary but seems nice and loyal to her friends, Milan is a business-minded wannabe and Dick’s sidekick who has the skills for a bar of his own, while Jaz plays like a smaller version of Elena with more social abilities.
The actress first came to light with her performance in ‘Married to Medicine Los Angeles’. She has not disclosed much about her personal life.
